On Interview - Be prepared to teach (4)
Now where were we? (as all the best teachers say!)
Ah yes! (they say that too!)
Tips for teaching while on interview! Here’s a few more:
Always have a written lesson plan so that you can produce it after the event in case things go wrong and you need to explain exactly what you wanted to achieve.
You always need to smile.
You probably need to dress according to school staff rules – discover what they are!
If staff wear is totally casual don’t dress up, if staff wear is smart, smart - then dress smart, smart.
If you don’t know what staff dress rules are then dress smart anyway cos it can’t hurt.
Know what you want to do with the time you have with your audience.
Be aware though, that they will try to distract and that some distraction can be good for learning and therefore good for them and, incidentally, for you too!
Laugh! Make a joke, make several jokes - but laugh with them, not at them!
Listen to them. Listen to what they are saying and react accordingly.
Don’t diss anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t diss even the rogue cos that might be the trap.
Don’t suggest use of the internet unless you are soooooo specific about sites to visit and sooooooo sure those sites are still there.
To be the best you can be, use chalk and talk, back it up with a specially prepared worksheet.
Always smile.
If you are really ICT orientated and you have your own lap-top and you are sure you are compatible with their systems then OK, use Presentations, use interactive whiteboards etc. etc. etc.
If you are ICT unsure or doubtful then don’t use it - it will come back to haunt you.
More to come……
